Exercise while you work | Effective Weight Loss Techniques

If you're always at work and completing all those required reports, you really can't blame yourself if your butt widens faster than you completing those reports. Here are some easy steps on how to lose 5-10 pounds without gaining 10-20 more.

1. Walking and Standing

One way to get off of your desk is by working between areas in your office. If possible, try to work with your laptop in the lounge or pantry so you take time to walk now and then even for just 30 minutes to 1 hour. Another way is by standing once in a while. You can really improve your posture by standing and you’ll burn more calories.

2. Walk the Talk

If you make calls most of the time, try to get a headset and walk around the office while you talk. Try using a pedometer so you can track how many steps you’ve taken. According to Cedric Bryant, Ph.D., chief science officer and physiologist for the American Council for Exercise, an extra 500 steps a day burns 25 extra calories. That’s about 2 pound weight loss in a year without a change in your diet.

3.  Have time for your meals

In an American Dietetic Association Report, 75% of workers eat lunch at their desks at least 2-3 times in a week. This habit can lead to increase eating over the day. You must enjoy what you eat so take time off your desk and eat in a relaxing atmosphere. Better awareness of what you are eating can reduce the chances eating more later in the day.

4. To the Left, To the Left

In a research at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, it was found out that we reach for things more to the right regardless of handedness or vision. So the idea is to put your snacks or unhealthy foods to the right side of your desk. Also, put fruits on top of your desk in a prime hand-spot so it can be your obvious choice for a snack.

5. Green is in!

Green Tea is a good choice for something green. According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, people who drank oolong tea fortified with green tea extract everyday for three months lost 2.4 pounds more than people who drank plain oolong tea. Catechins, the antioxidant found in green tea, may stimulate the body to burn calories and decrease hat.

6.  Cover the Temptation

You are only human and sometimes you need some help from the outside. According to a study by the Cornell University Food and Brand Lab found that workers dipped into chocolates 71% more often when they were in transparent containers. So cover up those temptations and also switch to hard candies – they’re lower in calories than bonbons, and they last longer.

7.  Sweet Smell of Success

According to Alan Hirsch, M.D., neurological director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, he believes that scents suppressed hunger rather than stimulate it. So try spraying sweet scents you can go natural just by putting an apple on top of your desk can help.  A group of overweight people who inhaled sweet smells when they were hungry lost an average of 30 pounds in six months – so take that for inspiration.

8. Betting can lose you weight

Strike a bet with your friends and coworkers. Research from Southeast Missouri State University shows that participants engaged in a bet to see who loses more weight lost eight pounds. Sometimes it pays to lose.
